Earlier on this evening I received a spam SMS from this number +2782007229449899 claiming that My cell number has been selected to receive an R8000-00 Pick an Pay Shopping voucher.The spam SMS provides a link to a fake Facebook page with fake Facebook user accounts (People) commenting that they too have received the SMS and were luck enough to win shopping vouchers after they spun the wheel of fortune that they collected and spent on groceries.
Pick and Pay have put out a notice on their facebook page this evening, distancing themselves from
the Spam SMS and warning customers not to disclose any personal information and that Pick n Pay will never ask its customers for banking details to enter a competition especially via SMS.
If you are tired of tele marketers, receiving spam sms and or any marketing related sms that you did not sign up for, you can de-register yourself from any company who has illegally received your information from consumer databases at The DMA National OPT OUT Database
Registering on this database will mean that you will not be contacted by members of the DMA (Direct Marketing Association of Southern Africa).
This helps you to make sure your address, email address, telephone and cell number are no longer available to organisations, who are members of the DMA, who want to make offers and send information that you do not wish to receive. You can also do this by contacting companies directly and asking them not to contact you.
