The second semi-final of South Africa's got talent took place yesterday evening, I was lucky enough to be part of the audience courtesy of S.A. Reviewer who gave away 3 tickets in an online competition via twitter. Thanks @S.A_Reviewer_1
South Africa's finally getting it right. After a long season, and a variety of
performances ranging from dancing to singing to memorising numbers to
eating chilli's to unicycling with bag pipes the last two rounds of semi finalists had their work cut out for them in what I think is one of the most competitive South Africa's got talent seasons ever!!!
Several acts keeping within the circus /acrobatic theme have made there way onto SAGT but unlike the many contestant who have entered SA Got talent who are jugglers, very few have exhibited the type of skill as shown by Siyabonga 'The Bambino Juggler" Swelindawo , his skills as a juggler were unmatched last night when he performed his act to a packed audience to the tunes of Justin Timberlakes Suit and tie, his song choice couldn't have been more appropriate as he executed his moves with style and elegance, I loved his performance and his energy and would like to see him up his game to make it into the finals
U.C.K, the talented young dub steppers from Ceres with their Entourage of fans were a crowd favourite, I love Dubstep and these boys really represented when they went on stage last night. If you've somehow missed the boat on the trendy, underground genre of heavy-on-the-bass electronic music, let U.C.K usher in a dance style that of late has taken the world by storm, U.C.K effortlessly interlaced the characteristic wobble of dub stepping to the filthy beats and massive bass drops and with each mind melting, head bobbing tune these boys arrested the audience with their refreshingly different style of dance poised with energy and enthusiasm that was definitely felt by the audience. I think they have what it takes to get to the final.
Lil Diezo, the young rapper from Potchefstroom, his music comes from a place of strength and humility, this boy is potentially my winner. Having only started rapping 2 years ago when he was 13 years old to where he is now is truly a remarkable feat. His performance last night was far more polished than the first time we saw him, his clearly more comfortable and far more confident as it was evident from his creative lyrics that incorporated all the judges as well as singing in another vernacular that clearly impressed Kabelo, I really hope that Daneoen wins, he has a bright future ahead of him.
And Finally Johnny Apple, Lil Diezo's biggest threat to winning SAGT and possibly the next big thing to come out of South Africa, he has the stage presence, he has the look, had the judges and the entire audience eating out his hand and most importantly he has an impressive voice that earned him a standing ovation after his impressive rendition of James browns classic "This is a mans world" Johnny is definitely and audience favourite and judging from the twitter response the audience reaction and what I heard from listening to him live, he looks well on his way to becoming the 2013 winner of South Africa's got talent.
Be sure to watch the results show for semi final 2 that takes place on Saturday evening at 6:30pm to see if the contestant you voted for made it to the finals.
