Raising raw scores of Matric candidates to elevate overall pass rate -What the DA has observed and my own predictions

It's "massaging " of Matric marks again in 2017 and the DA -MP Gavin Davis has questioned the quality assurance board , Umalusi about the way averages were increased. He was part of a team of observers at Umalusi's deliberation on the 2017 Matric results.
He noted that marks were increased in 32 out of 58 subjects .His concern with the mark adjustment was that candidates would be accepted to universities with marks that did not reflect their true academic abilities.

Another serious factor Davis pointed out was that the 109 000 "progressed " pupils results had NOT been treated separately . "Progressed" learners are those unable to pass Grade 11 but were "placed" in Grade 12 to prevent them from giving up or dropping out from the system.

My prediction for the overall Matric results to be announced today would be 73% with Western Province leading once again with 87% and Gauteng following with 86%.

There would no significant change in the Math and Math Literacy marks as these subjects continue to be the Achilles Heels of the majority of candidates. Hence the education department's new policy in allowing G.8/9 pupils to pass with 20% in Math. There would be a possible drop in Geography but marginal gains in Life Science .
There should be an increase in Accounting and History.

Let's wait for the announcement of Matric results by the Minister of Education at 15:00 today.
