Elections and CAPS will "flavour" 2013 Matric results

The Quality-assurance body, Umalusi , warned that most Maths candidates at Matric level  were performing at lower levels. This really is an understatement when one considers that the Matriculant National pass rate for Maths in 2012 was 54%  which is really "very high"  when this is compared to the 13%  - 2012 Math Grade 9 Annual National Assessment (ANA) A DIFFERENCE OF A WHOOPING 41%.

This comparison is inconsistency at its worst . Are the Maths educators eating the same magical beans to get their matriculation candidates to perform at a higher level like Jack who climbed the beanstalk to new heights?

If the above is true, then we should see the Maths marks rising from 54% to around 59%. We already know that the Grade 9 - Maths ANA marks rose from 13% (2012) to 14% (2013)

It is also interesting to note that the MECs of 6 provinces have predicted increased Matric pass rate from 73,9% (2012) to around 79% (2013) .

With the elections and the introduction of the new Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for Matriculants  in 2014, there is every likelihood that the above predication will become a reality.

Bishop Desmond Tutu and Mamphela Ramphele (Agang leader) have questioned the minimum pass rate and have shouted aloud, "Where in the world do you see a learner failing by 70% but is still allowed to pass the Matric examination?"

In his Sunday Times article : "failure breeds 'success' in SA schools" ( 5 January 2014) , Jonathan Jansen,
the highly respected  rector and vice-chancellor of the University of Free State has slated our education system as being fraudulent. He has repeatedly suggested ways and means of improving the QUALITY of the education system but this has always fallen on deaf ears.

As long as there is politics in the make-up of the Matriculation results and the minimum pass rate remains at 30% , we will continue to place our 20 years of democracy in destruction mode and all the hard work done by our great icon ,the late Nelson Mandela will continue to go to waste.
